Global trading patterns are taking new shapes these days with the introduction of a range of tariffs by the Americans. Decisions emerging from the White House are causing everyone around the world to rethink how they approach the international marketplace.
For Saskatchewan, this is important stuff. The United States is our biggest customer and when they take a new stance, we will feel it. So, this is something that can’t be ignored.
There is, however, good news in this story. The most significant is the RCMP finding there was no basis for criminal charges around the Global Transportation Hub. The GTH is the most important logistics asset we have, and at a time when trade is moving in a new direction, eliminating distractions around our most important asset is critical.
While the opposition will carp on about this thing the rest of us need to erase our impression of the GTH because it turns out all the innuendo about wrongdoing is without merit. This is Saskatchewan’s ace-in-the-hole in a world of changing trading patterns. We should embrace it, not kill it.
